PURE Launch

PURE - a newly-formed non-profit Renewable Energy Co-operative for Dufferin County and the Headwaters Region, invites all local residents to participate in the first milestone on the road to a sustainable energy future.

After numerous meetings and discussions, the PURE Steering Committee is now ready to host its first public open-house Inaugural Meeting, on Saturday February 28th in Shelburne.

New members are welcome. Membership in PURE ($20/individual) will entitle those with an interest in energy conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy issues to play a role in shaping the design of our local energy economy. With the anticipated advent of an open energy supply market, threats of supply shortages, and the world-wide conversion to clean, sustainable, renewable technologies which is currently underway - the field is wide open for local entrepreneurs and enthusiasts to get involved and make a contribution to our own local energy self sufficiency and environmental well-being.

The objectives of PURE Co-op will apply at the levels of both the individual homeowner and our entire regional community. The goals of the Co-op will focus on energy conservation, support for the creation of more renewable energy sources, education activities including presentations and workshops, a centralized knowledge-base, and advocacy for structural changes which will encourage these objectives.

The February 28 meeting agenda includes presentations by Martin Ince of Positive Power Co-op, a Hamilton-area group with similar objectives, and OSEA - the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association. As well, PURE members will present an overview of the Co-op for newcomers, elect their first Board of Directors, and discuss a draft Business Plan document which will guide the organization for the exciting years ahead.
