Community-Based Sustainable Energy Strategies for Dufferin County and the Headwaters Region

PURE Co-op Orangeville Office

... is now closed, until further notice

PURE will continue to carry on its work without a store-front office, as it has in the past.

We will revisit the idea of main street office space if and when the need for such arises in future. Thanks for your support.

Feel free to contact us as usual if you have any questions or need info.

PURE Mentioned in Ottawa

On February 23, 2005, our local MP, Mr. David Tilson, spoke in the House of Commons about PURE. Here's the transcript:

" Mr. David Tilson (Dufferin—Caledon, CPC): Mr. Speaker, this past November, Centre Dufferin District High School in Shelburne became the first high school in Ontario to install a solar and wind powered renewable energy system.

Phase one of the project is now complete. Phase two of the project is to be completed for Earth Day, April 22, with the wind tower increasing the capacity to two kilowatts.

Canada's future must involve the rapid growth to renewable forms of energy generation and significant reductions in our energy use. The green power project offers us as citizens a fantastic opportunity to learn about our future energy technologies, energy choices and methods of energy conservation.

Teacher Jeff Wellman and the students and teachers at the school have assisted in a partnership with the Power Up Renewable Energy Co-Operative, the Fairfield Group, the Upper Grand District School Board, Canadian Hydro Developers and Hydro One.

Please join me in commending this group on a project that is sure to be a big success for the future in our environment."

David Tilson, MP - Press Release
Dufferin-Caledon
For Immediate Release - July 18, 2005

TILSON HAS HOME EVALUATED BY REEP AND REDUCE THE JUICE TEAM

ORANGEVILLE – David Tilson, MP for Dufferin-Caledon opened his home to be evaluated by the Dufferin-Caledon Residential Energy Efficiency Project (REEP), a federal government’s EnerGuide for Homes program. This is a joint initiative between the Elora Centre for Environmental Excellence and the Caledon Countryside Alliance both not-for-profit organizations that deliver environmental programs to their local communities.

In addition he took part in a survey conducted by Reduce the Juice. Four students and two team leaders from Shelburne are a part of the Reduce the Juice program supported by two federal funding agencies, EcoAction and Human Resources & Skills Development Canada. These students observed the evaluation being conducted by Mr. Peter Livingston of REEP and will be making recommendations for Mr. Tilson to reduce energy consumption.

“I was very impressed by both REEP and the students with the Reduce the Juice Program. Conserving energy has become an increasing concern to all and we should all take steps to reduce the amount of energy we consume. These students have given their time to this program and I give them a lot of credit for their initiatives thus far to reduce Shelburne’s energy use by 5%,” Tilson said.

“I also look forward to the results of my evaluation and the recommendations that will be made by Mr. Livingston as to how I can better conserve energy in my own home,” Tilson stated.

PURE Mentioned in Ottawa - Again!

February, 2005 - PURE/Reduce The Juice is congratulated by Minister for the Environment, Stéphane Dion, for taking initiative on climate change.
